In recent years, BLT has made significant progress in Laser-based Directed Energy Deposition of Metals (DED-LB/M) technology. This advancement is particularly beneficial for rapid and low-cost manufacturing of large-size parts.

In January 2024, BLT played a crucial role in the successful launch of the Orienspace Gravity-1 rocket. The company produced over 30 large structural parts using DED-LB/M technology. This method shortened the development cycle significantly.

DED-LB/M technology is proving cost-effective for mass production. Take the isolation ring as an example. Traditional methods struggled with its size of φ560mm×70mm. DED-LB/M reduces costs, energy consumption, and production time while improving material efficiency.

BLT has also developed a self-supporting DED-LB/M process for overhang structures. This innovation eliminates the need for additional supports during printing. It addresses issues of increased weight, longer manufacturing cycles, and higher costs.

Two notable examples showcase this technology:

1. A titanium alloy frame scaled parts measuring 280mm×390mm×390mm.

2. A grid structure sample sized 510mm×130mm×505mm.505mm.

BLT is pushing boundaries in material properties too. It has developed techniques for partitioned varied-parameter forming, gradient forming, and multi-alloy forming. These methods allow different sections of a single part to have varied functions and properties.

These technologies are exemplified in BLT-C400 which focuses on aerospace part repair and scientific research. It offers automated and assisted repair functions, significantly increasing processing efficiency. The machine also supports a wide range of materials and printing parameters.

Additionally, BLT-C400 can mix up to four materials during printing. It also supports gradient printing in a maximum of four directions. These features enable the creation of complex, multi-functional parts that showcase the full potential of DED-LB/M technology.

For researchers exploring advanced topics, such as multiphysics interaction in melting and solidification, BLT-C400 can be equipped with digital ultrasonic vibration energy field devices and digital rotating magnetic field devices.
